Position Characteristics: o The Legal Administrative Assistant reports to both Direct Manager and Administrative Manager and is responsible for providing administrative and legal services. o Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner will ensure that municipal operations are maintained in an effective and efficient manner. Duties and Responsibilities: o Draft legal documents like contracts which are then reviewed by lawyers so as to be certain they conform to the requirements of the law and the client. o Legal assistants also perform legal research, and may in the prosecution or defense of a person, do most of the research or provide evidences that will help support arguments in legal briefs or the court setting. o Keep cases organized by organizing and establishing files; documenting actions, monitoring calendars; inputting information into case management software and file database; confirming case status with attorney and meeting deadline o Help develop cases by preparing and forwarding summonses cum subpoenas, maintaining contact with people involved in cases; drafting complaints, scheduling depositions; preparing responses to opposing counsel, preparing and filing discovery requests as well as generating status reports. o Keep clients updated by communicating case progress o Accomplish organizational goals by exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. o In some other instances, legal assistants working in corporate law would have experience at filing articles of incorporation, drawing up contracts, or drafting partnership agreements.
Qualifications o Knowledge of and orientation to the philosophy of the office as presented in Mission/Philosophy statements. o Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, clients and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in diverse workplace and with a diverse client population. o Typing ability at required speed and accuracy. o Considerable knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation, office practices and procedures. o Ability to organize, efficiently document and routinely update information; ability to apply procedures to work problems and situations.
