Description - Responsible for the descriptive cataloging, original cataloguing and classification of rare books and special collections library materials in all formats. Primary languages include Arabic and European languages in all subject areas. The materials will be cataloged following the RDA: Resource Description and Access for original cataloging, and Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (2nd ed.) for copy cataloging, and using Library of Congress Classification, Subject Headings and authority files;
 - Follows the USMARC 21 (machine readable) record format rules for encoding fixed and variable fields in the MARC record;
 - Responsible for cataloging on-line bibliographic records in various languages in the shared database, OCLC Connexion Client, and the local Innovative Interfaces Millennium databases or other automated integrated library system;
 - Responsible for providing metadata for online collections including those produced for DARR and the RBSCL Digital Library;
 - Responsible for overseeing and/or processing of all materials cataloged as well as perform minor corrections such as replacing labels or marking withdrawn items;
 - Responsible for the efficient movement of preprocessed materials;
 - Works with the Associate Director and Head of Cataloging and Metadata to establish and maintain bibliographic control through cataloging of all materials placed in the special collections. This may include advising about cataloging formats and retrieval options;
 - Works to assure the security of materials in the collections through security stripping, labeling and other processing techniques;
 - Works with Collection Management to assure proper locations for materials in the two libraries;
 - As needed, will assist in special library projects such as converting paper records to digital or microfilm, security stripping and other preservation projects;


Qualifications .A.in a relevant field, B.A. in Library and Information Science is a plus . Experience: - A minimum of 3 years experience in another library setting is required - Specific experience with automated systems such as OCLC and Innovative Interfaces integrated system or similar systems helpful; - Experience in cataloging rare books, manuscripts, photographs and other formats preferred; - Experience in downloading cataloging records from OCLC WorldCat libraries preferred; - Training and solid foundation in all aspects of Library of Congress cataloging rules and procedures including MARC records. Skills: - Knowledge of complex systems, in general, and the use of personal computers is required; - Ability to pay close attention to detail is required; - Working knowledge of RDA: Resource Description and Access, Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, USMARC 21 formats, and Library of Congress Classification and Subject Headings is a plus; -
